Lockport Public Library's 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages reading to young children and emphasizes early literacy within families. The program is generously sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lockport. Any child from 12 months to 4 years is eligible to register for the program. Open registration will be held in the months of April and September to coincide with National Library Month and National Library Week in April and Library Card Sign-up month in September and can be done in person at the Library.
After registering, you and your child will receive a reading folder. Visit the library with your completed reading log each time you and your child have read 50 books to receive your next 50 books reading log. Reading incentives will include free books sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lockport throughout the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.
How long does it take to read 1,000 Books?
The program can take anywhere from a few months to a few years. The program is self-paced and will depend on how often you read together. If you read only 3 books a day to your child, you will complete the program in less than a year.
