Getting a Library Card
Present identification*, including your name and current address. Parents must sign a form authorizing the issuance of a library card to a child under the age of 13.
Your first library card is free of charge. Replacement cards are $1.00. There is no charge for updating information in the database or for renewing expired cards.
* Acceptable forms of identification:
- New York State driver's license with current street address. [Note: A license with a Post Office Box or a commercially available personal mailbox, e.g., a PMB available through Mail Boxes Etc.) is not acceptable as it does not prove residence. Applicants are required to provide another form of ID verifying address.]
- Valid picture identification card with name, current address, and signature.
- Dwelling lease.
- Voter's registration card with current address.
Persons not able to furnish the identification noted above may consult with the library director regarding acceptable alternatives.
Other Residents of New York State
Other residents of New York State who do not live, work, own property, or attend school in the three-county NIOGA service area are eligible for borrowing privileges by applying for an individual library card for a fee of $40.00; these cards have a 15-item limit and are valid for one year.
